Workshops and Retreats

IMG_9271Below you will find descriptions for upcoming workshops and retreats. In addition to time-specific small-group workshops and retreats, I offer self-paced creative writing and mindfulness-inspired workshops online for individuals. You can find those at the bottom of the page, as well as a list of workshops I have facilitated in the past.

If there are any themes you’d like to see covered in an upcoming workshop or retreat; if you are interested in a custom workshop or retreat for your group of friends; or if you would like me to facilitate a workshop for your business or organization— be in touch!

Small-Group Workshops and Retreats

Story Seekers: A Writing Retreat at Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center in Western Oregon

In every walk in Nature one receives far more than he seeks. –John Muir

When: Friday-Sunday, May 29-31st, 2015

Description: At the heart of every story lies a tale of transformation, and the ancient forest contains them all. In this weekend workshop, we will explore the wild and tangled woods in search of stories of birth, death, love, desire, destruction, resilience, and healing.

Our discoveries will be our guides as we write the stories of the transformative experiences that have shaped our lives. For more information and registration information, visit Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center’s website.

Self-Paced Online Workshops for Individuals

Brave BeginningsCreative Writing and Mindfulness Practices for your Next Bold Move

IMG_5842When: Any time you want! There are four sessions to do at your own pace.

Fee: $60-100, sliding scale.

Description: In the song The Cape, Guy Clark sings about a boy who jumps off the garage wearing nothing but a flour sack cape: “Well, he’s one of those who knows that life is just a leap of faith, Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape… He did not know he could not fly, and so he did.”

In this four-session online workshop, these words will hum in the background as you shed the things that hold you back from leading your most expansive, true-to-yourself life… and cultivate the courage to step into it!

Through weekly guided meditations; freewriting exercises; mindfulness practices; and weekly readings, songs, practices, and other inspirations, you will get in touch with your heart’s deepest desires and cultivate the inner resources necessary to pursue them. The teachings of Mark Nepo, Tara Brach, Pema Chodron, and Joseph Campbell will help to inform your journey. For more details and registration….

Story Crafting: An Online Writing Workshop

IMG_9498When: Five sessions. Begin at any time and go at your own pace!

Description: Your mind and notebooks are full of story ideas but it’s hard to find time to do anything with them, right!? Or maybe you’ve got some half-finished stories that you’d really like to polish up and submit for publication. Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to write but aren’t sure where to start.

If that sounds like you, then this workshop is just what you need! Over the course of five sessions you will engage in a writing process that begins with wild and free writing exercises and culminates in the completion of one solid story. Along the way you’ll write scenes, create compelling characters, and craft just the right amount of narrative tension.  For more information and registration….
